About

Ed is an avid user of technology. He grew up with technology and has always looked for ways to incorporate it into his everyday and work lives to make things run easier, smoother and with less hassle. Ed’s first computer was a Commodore Vic 20, followed by a Timex Sinclair, then an Apple IIc, then a Mac Plus and a Mac Centirs 650. When he got out of college, he learned that the business world he worked in largely used PCs and he picked up a few of them.

Today, Ed runs a peer-to-peer network at his house with the following computers – 2 Mac Books (wife & kids), 1 Gateway Desktop (kids), a Sony Desktop (Windows 7), a SystemMax (Windows 7), an Asus laptop (Windows 7),a MacBook Pro 13″ laptop, and dual screens for all the desktops.  Ed uses an Apple Airport Extreme router (after trying a few others), and has 2 Canon MX850 printers/scanners/faxes – one networked and one bluetooth, a Lexmark 240N laser printer-networked, a Canon Pixma 90 portable printer, 2 portable scanners (one by Neat Systems), several USB hard drives run off the main router, and 2 iPhones (a 3G S and a 3G [wife's]).

Ed has had computers crash, hard drives burn, routers quit working, and good tech go bad.  He’s seen the good, the bad and the ugly with trying to get technology to work for him.  It either does or it goes into the donate/sell pile. He doesn’t necessarily get the first production of any piece of tech unless it is really intriguing (he does own a first generation Amazon Kindle, but also has the Kindle software installed on almost all his computers and his iPhone 3G S).

He has found things that work for him and enjoys talking to people about technology. Friends and acquaintances frequently ask him for opinions on problems and issues related to technology.  So Ed thought hosting this blog might be fun and allow him to connect with more folks that just want technology that will work and do things the way they want, easily and quickly with minimal fuss and muss.

If you have questions on technology, are trying to figure out what tech will work best or what the pros and cons are of a certain piece of tech, or are trying to find an application to get the job done, drop Ed a note using the contact form under the “Contact” page and he just might use your question/inquiry as the basis for one of his blog entries!

Required Disclosures

While this is a blog and Ed enjoys sharing his enthusiasm, he also may receive some compensation from the links included in the blog, i.e., links to items on Amazon.com (which Ed primarily provides to make it easier for folks to find the items for sale on Amazon.com, a site he trusts, and be able to get quick access to customer reviews of the item), or from the sponsors who place ads on this blog.  If companies provide technology or software for review, Ed will develop a policy to fairly disclose the facts concerning such reviews including any possible compensation he might receive, including getting to keep any technology reviewed.  Even if not noted, everyone reading this blog should assume that Ed may have an interest in any review or blog entry posted.  Even if Ed doesn’t, this will assure that everyone approaches things as they should with an adequate amount of skepticism.
